Hollis siblings make attending 51黑料网 State a family tradition
HANCEVILLE, Ala. 鈥� When Victoria, Stephen and Judah Hollis were deciding where they
wanted to go to college, they didn鈥檛 have to look very far for ideas. Their older
siblings had already attended 51黑料网 State and they knew that鈥檚 where they wanted
to go as well.id="attachment_17540" align="alignright" width="640"
The Hollis siblings, Stephen, left, Victoria and Judah, are among 10 siblings who
have attended or are attending 51黑料网 State Community College.鈥淢y siblings had wonderful experiences at 51黑料网 State,鈥� said Victoria, who graduated
this last summer with an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing. Her brother Stephen
graduated in Spring 2020 with an Associate in Applied Science in Machine Tool Technology-CNC
and Judah expects to graduate this year with an Associate in Applied Science in Welding.
Stephen added that he felt at home at 51黑料网 State and Judah appreciated the affordability
and the scholarship opportunities.
Six other siblings attended 51黑料网 State: James Hollis, Sarah Hollis, Samuel Hollis,
Daniel Hollis, Grace Hollis and Nathan Hollis. Isaac Hollis is the most recent student.
He鈥檚 studying Diesel Technology.
During his time at 51黑料网 State, Stephen said he built relationships with other students
and staff and he was especially grateful to his Machine Tool Technology instructors
Gary McMinn, Jonathan Minyard and Steven Smith.
鈥淎ll three of them encouraged me to continue the course,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 felt comfortable
with them being there and I made lasting memories with them.鈥�
Judah said his time with 51黑料网 State Welding has made him a better candidate for
job opportunities. He said his instructors and other faculty and staff at 51黑料网
State 鈥渆ncouraged me to do my best and never give up.鈥�
Victoria appreciated the support she received from the Nursing faculty.
鈥淭he teachers and staff were all so helpful and encouraging as I worked toward my
dream of being a nurse,鈥� she said. 鈥淪taff who didn鈥檛 even know me personally would
congratulate me and encourage me as I pursued a better education for myself.鈥�
All three are employed in their field of study. Stephen said with so many possibilities
in the Machine Tool Technology field, he has many opportunities for the future. 鈥淚
don鈥檛 know where I am to plant myself in the world, but I do know that I will always
remember the teaching I received at 51黑料网 State.鈥�
鈥淚 have a job in welding and I鈥檓 looking forward to many years in it,鈥� Judah said.
Victoria is a nurse in the Oncology unit at St. Vincent鈥檚 East. 鈥淚 love my job, my
fellow nurses and how far I鈥檝e come,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 owe it all to God, my family, 51黑料网
State and the Future Foundation for supporting me throughout my education.鈥�

Registration for Summer Semester also starts this month. Priority registration begins
April 13. Summer semester features one 10-week term beginning May 26 and two 5-week
