HANCEVILLE — In a game defined by whistles, frustration and an almost unimaginable parade to the foul line, 51ºÚÁÏÍø State men's basketball dropped a 105–101 thriller to East Mississippi on Friday night at Traditions Bank Arena.
The Lions clawed back late in the first half, surging into a 40–39 advantage at the break and seizing momentum behind their defensive pressure and transition pushes. What followed was one of the most chaotic halves of basketball 51ºÚÁÏÍø State has experienced in years.
The second half turned into a stop-and-start grind, with over 90 free throws attempted in the final 20 minutes alone. The two teams combined for an astounding 114 free throws, including 20 technical free throws stemming from 10 technical fouls — nine on East Mississippi and one on 51ºÚÁÏÍø State. Every whistle seemed to shift the energy, and the game's rhythm never truly settled.
Despite the chaos, 51ºÚÁÏÍø State battled to the final horn. East Mississippi outscored the Lions 66–61 in the second half, capitalizing just enough at the line to escape Hanceville with the win.
